CRM Mobile App - Prolifiq Software

Visual & Interaction Designer

Overview & goals

As the visual and interaction designer, I helped to design a powerful and engaging CRM solution for Bristol-Myers Squibb. Their sales reps needed a better way to communicate and track their activity with the health care professionals they supported. Our goal was to help the sales reps work with their doctors more efficiently by helping them complete tasks with ease, coordinate with other reps working on the same accounts, and track any meetings or phone calls they had with health care professionals.

Challenges

The biggest challenge was coming up with a design that a team of limited developers could build within a small timeframe. While the scope of the project was very big, we were a small company with developers that were stretched thin. We had to think of a design system that was not only quick to implement, but also elegant too.

Design process

After requirements were completed, we began many brainstorming sessions to figure out what the focal points of the app would be, and how the experience would be laid out. From there, site maps were created to show the flow and navigation of the entire app. Requirements were compared against the mapping to make sure nothing was left out.

Once the navigation and flow was clear, wireframes were created to give the project some structure and to generally show what the app would look like. The content and copy were written and added to the wireframes, then presented to the client for approval. Features and functionality (gesturing, dynamic sections, etc.) were then added on as annotations once the wireframes were finalized.

Next came the visuals, where the biggest challenge lied throughout the whole process. I initially designed the UI with custom styling, but after running through the screens with the dev team, they determined they would not be able to complete the app given the timeline. We then had to quickly pivot in a different direction and look for an existing design system that could be easily implemented. We decided on Material Design, which already had a code-base and guidelines to use, and was also a very sleek, modern style. We were still able to add some custom design into it, specifically the illustrations to give it a bit of our own flare.

Outcome

The app was well-received by the client and the sales reps using it. They liked how easy it was to navigate and find what they were looking for very easily. They also appreciated the sleek design and delightful illustrations inserted throughout the app.

After immersing myself in Material Design, I became very knowledgeable with all the guidelines, do’s & don’ts and general specs. It was a great opportunity to not only learn how to implement a great design system, but to also make it work successfully for the product we were building.
